For example, video on demand (VOD) system, video conference, video phone and voice over internet protocol (VOIP) etc. In these services, the broadband on demond service, which include VOD system and online music etc, is more widely used. People's communication and cooperation become more facility and efficiency by these services, at the same time, a great number of multimedia resources having been creatted by these services to satisfy people's spare time. With the increasing of new multimedia application, more and more advanced and effective codec arithmetic has been put forward. As a result, multmedia format become more complex and diversification. The tendence mentioned above requires the multimedia terminal have the capability of compatible the changeful requirement. This capability require more adaptive and extensible. As a important implement method, media player have more strictly emphasize the capability of adaptive an extensible. A player with poor adaptability or expansibility will be fall into disuse sooner because of the rapid development of multimedia market. The thesis firstly introduces Design Patterns and Windows COM technology and analyses the mechanism of three main streams media players,Windows Media Player RealSystem and MPlayer. According to user's requirement, thesis gets a design aim and designs a primary design model of a media player in theory. And then according to using Design Patterns theory, thesis decomposes the media player architecture of the media player by using the merits of module management of RealSystem and MPalyer.
