The general signal source, represented by function/arbitrary waveform generator, is wildly used in the modern testing field. Giving the abilities of generating all kinds of ideal and none ideal signals, it has been widely used in the domains of communication, radar, navigation, etc. The arbitrary waveform generator (AWG for short) is a high intellectualized instrument which is based on the critical techniques of the direct digital synthesis technique (DDS for short) and high speed, high precision D/A conversion technique, etc. With the digital frequency synthesis technique, it can produce any kind of complex waveform of customer desired which is different with the traditional frequency synthesis technique can only produce standard waveform such as sine wave, square wave and triangle wave, etc. AWG can not only produce the waveforms which the traditional source generator can not, but also can produce the linear frequency modulated, phase modulated or amplitude modulated signal and square wave of which duty can be programmed, furthermore it can produce arbitrary waveform according to the customer's desire. The flexibility of the output signal produced by AWG make it indispensable in the military comprehensive testing. Based on the research and development of the hardware of the project"CPCI Arbitrary Waveform Generator", I finished this dissertation. At first, it introduced the current market situation and development trend of the AWG,then it emphasized the principle of AWG and the circuit framework of the AWG hardware while it also introduced how to create the arbitrary waveform with this module, at last it introduced the debug method of the module. According to the outline of debugging, this module has been tested time after time. The result is so satisfied that this module meets the project guide line's needs and can be used in the field.
