This master dissertation was based on the research of ATE software test approach, which was a researching project, and written with the task that assigned to the writer. The purpose of this project was to research the ATE software test approach. The ATE system is composed of hardware device, test program set and interface modules. Bug is a static property of software. The aim of software test is to expose the bugs existing in the programs, and reduce the possibility of causing system faults by software failures. The quality of software is an important index to ensure the ATE system in order.Software testing was usually divided into unit testing, integration testing, system testing, acceptance testing and recursion testing on V-model in much documentation; however, we described it not only based on the V-model but also associated with PO testing methods and OO testing model. For the reason that many test techniques don't be limited on a certain level, tester should take the appropriate techniques to build and perform test in a global point view.During the research works, we have read lots of technical documentation and some relative standards such as IEEE829, IEEE1008, IEEE730 and IEEE1012. At the same time, we used many advanced methods on a series of software products and summarized a set of test strategies and approaches. This paper introduced the test approach about ATE software and the methods in each test phase in brief. And described some design methods about system test case. Finally, it introduced the status quo and foreground of auto-test.
