With the development of social economy , the transport system becomes complicated increasingly. In order to send real-time information to the transport management systems to control existing transport system effectively , we research the transport information collection system which is based on video image processing. The transport information collection system is divided into three parts: processing module, compress module and network module. The network module , based on the embedded system , will get the information , including vehicle type speed queue length and swerving status, from the processing module and send them to the control center by TCP/IP protocol , synchronously , when some event happens , the network module will send image serial which got from the compress module.In this thesis, the history and trend of intelligent transport systems (ITS) is recited first. Subsequently, several precepts are compared , including comparing some popular embedded operation systems, and the difference between $Clinux and standard Linux is expounded. And then, the features of the operation systems and processors are compared , and μClinux and MCF5307 become the target operation system and the processor. And then hardware design detail is given, including introduction about the primary chips and some key technique in the hardware design. Software design is followed which includes BSP(Board Support Package) , host program drivers and user program in μClinux. Finally, the sum-up of the system is given and improvement which is needed is also given.
