Humanity has entered 21st century and stepped into a knowledge economy age. Knowledge has become the most important motive force for the development of the society. As the pivot of information dissemination, libraries face the question that how they can respond to the call of the era and fulfil a knowledge medium's function.By making reference to the latest theories of foreign knowledge management, the dissertation points out that the future development of libraries which have the essence of knowledge working should be based on the introduction of new concept of managementę¢œnowledge management, the reform of their inner management and outer service and the discussion connected with the knowledge economy and web environment.Firstly, the thesis elaborates the conception of knowledge management and its foundation of ideology, practice and management. Secondly, it analyses the contents, characteristics and expanding tendency of the new management thoroughly. Thirdly, by means of expounding the close connection between library and knowledge, the thesis tells us the necessity and possibility of introducing the new concept of management. Besides, the dissertation demonstrates the research trends on knowledge management of worldwide academic circles on library and information science. Finally, the article discusses that there will be great change in libraries under this new kind of management, that is, reform management to realize humanistic management, reform service to carry out knowledge service and reform profession positioning to make knowledge navigation.The thesis combines theory with practice by using various research methods, such as investigation, analysis, comparison and forecasting, etc.It consists of 3 parts, including about 25000 words, 2 pictures and 1 diagram.
