The simulation technology is concerned with the new and high technologies on the areas of computer, networking, figure & picture, multimedia, software engineering, information processeing, automatic control and so on. With the developments on these aeras, system simulation technology has evolved in depth, and has been applied in more and more applications. Therefore much attentions have been paid to investigate the latest achievements of these aspects and apply them into developing the simulation systems. Besides, the integrated simulation platform based on the integration of the latest technical achievements on related areas, which could lead to much higher performances of simulation systems and make its development much easier, has become a hot number in system simulation technology. Marine Engine Room Simulator, as so called in the field of navigation education, is a novel kind of simulation system for training the marine engineers. Our university has successfully developed SMSC-2000 Marine Engine Room Simulator. It was checked and accepted by the ministry of communication of China in April 1999 and appraised in December 1999. Its training functions meet perfectly the requirements of STCW78/79 by IMO (the International Maritime Organization) and the requirement of our country on the outline of eligibility certification, examination and evaluation for shipping sailors. Besides, its technological achievements are at the advanced level in the middle of the 90抯 all over the world. Science and technology is always on moving. By reviewing the development of SMSC-2000 according to the latest technologies, we will find certain deficiencies, e.g., some techniques need to be updated, some improvements on system performances are required, etc. This is just the background of this dissertation, It aims to investigate and realize some new techniques forsimulation system development in accordance with the integrated simulation platform and hence to result in more perfect developing techniques for marine engine room simulators. The dissertation is outlined below. In Chapter 1 we will briefly introduce the development of marine engine room simulator and SMSC-2000. The technical features and deficiencies for SMSC-2000 will then be summarized. The major researches involved in this dissertation will also be presented. Chapter 2 is devoted to an introducion on the integrated simulation platform technology, with its features and the state-of-art being discussed. We will present our viewpoints on how to apply such technology to develope marine engine room simulator. In Chapter 3, the problem of realizing the real-time communication in the integrated simulation platform will be studied. According to the requirements of SMSC-2000 on the expanding training function, we will propose a full-direction, real-time data communication methods based on the Windows Sockets. This method solves the problem of data communication between the instructor station, the simulation stations and the training stations inside the simulator system with any direction. This research equips SMSC-2000 with strong capabilities in expanding training and has been successfully applied in many sets of automatic power station simulators. Chapter 4 will be on developing the controls of dedicated components. To develop the dedicated components in the form of ActiveX controls will significantly enhance the flexibility and openness of the...
