In the past few years, LED(Light Emitting Diode) is becoming more and more noticeable in the lighting industry. Government, scientists and lighting corporations pay more attention on LED lighting than ever before. Consequently, LED has been very competitive in performance for general lighting compared with other main light sources such as fluorescent and halogen lamp.On the basis of the competence of LED itself, the application is extending from backlight, signal lighting to replacement for all types of light sources. Now more and more lighting experts and designers are tend to select LED as the light sources for lighting fixture development because of its remarkable advantages such as super long lifetime and environment-friendly.The thesis introduces one type of high-efficiency LED directional lamp, which could be the replacement for current directional lamp having CFL or Halogen as light source. The thesis contains the thermal management and optics design for the LED directional lamp with the theoretical arithmetic and software simulation, then the analysis and selection of driver used. At the end of the article, there will be the evaluation for the designed lamp and comparison with CFL directional lamp in technical and economical fields.
