Ultra wide-band technique is a new development in wireless communication field, which is greatly different from traditional communication technology. The bandwidth of UWB signal is much wider than any other current communication signals. As they are characterized with low power spectral density, high data rate, robustness to multipath fading and low cost, UWB systems are particularly promising for dense multipath situations, for example, indoor communications. With the release of the United States FCC spectral mask, UWB technology has attracted increasing interest in both academia and industry.Firstly, the principle and characteristic of UWB technology are summarized. And it is introduced the restriction by FCC and the standard of wave design. For the reason of the particularity of wide-band communication, Federal Communications Commission has strict rules on its transmission and receptionSecondly, the transmitted pulse waveforms of UWB communications are studied. The pulse waveform design is a key research topic in ultra wide band wireless communications under Feder Communications Comission (FCC) emission mask for UWB system. Based on the Gaussian pulse being often chosen as the pulse waveform of UWB system, time response, frequency response and the sensibility to pulse jitter of the nth(n =0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 derivatives of Gaussian pulse are estimated. The results show that the system using the 4th derivative of Gaussian pulse as the waveform has the best performance. Based on the research above, by optimally combining Gaussian pulses, we can design the new impulse which operating factor of frequency spectrum is high and flexibility.The last, in this paper, modulation of pulse waveforms(TH-UWB) and multipath channel models of ultra-wideband(UWB),RAKE take over communication system are theoretically analysed. According to the research results, an UWB communication system model including bit error rate computing module is constructed. System performance using different kinds of pulse waveforms is studied and simulated in terms of bit error rate. Simulation results are presented.
