With the development of photoelectric imaging technology, photodetectors develop to a high frequency, high resolution and Multi-Channel stage. And the CCD detection system which is widely used in astronomical exploration, alse develops to the trend. So, the image's transmission and control require a higher performance of the transmission media. At present, the common technologys are Camera Link,GIGE,network and fiber. Because of the prominent advantages in effectiveness and reliability, fiber transmission system is applied much more. As every astronomical image transmission system has its special communication system, which is developed according to the particular observation system, the universality of the communication system is poor. Combined with the demands of the CCD camera system we are developing, and use the UCO/Lick CCD camera's fiber transmission circuit for reference, we designed a fiber transmisson system of astronomical image.In this paper, some suitable fiber and PCI bus controller devices are first selected based on the general design requirements of the system. Then comes the Hardware circuit and FPGA design. At last, testing the whole system to show the design's validity and rationality. Hardware circuit and FPGA design is the keystone of this paper. In hardware design part, the operation principle and the pins'setting in the design of the key devices are introduced in detail. Also, some schematic diagrams and the layout demands are presented in this part. FPGA is the control center and the FPGA design is one of the most important parts. In FPGA design part, we described the method of FPGA design, implemented the functional modules the using VHDL, analysised the simulation waveforms of the modules. The testing results are given in the last part, and it shows that it works well and stably. Astronomical images can be transmitted rapidly and reliably using this fiber link.
