Campus crisis refer to ongoing incidents or potential problems that threatennormal college life, including unexpected injuries, campus violence, conflictsbetween teachers and students, mass incidents, conflicts between collegemanagement and teachers, and epidemics and social crisis affecting the campus.Today, a number of new factors such as the colleges'openness, expandedenrolment, mental pressure, epidemics, the Internet and the emergence of privatecolleges are affecting campus stability, making campus crisis more diversified andfrequent and take on new features. As they have long been in a closed environment,Chinese colleges are not fully aware of the potential crisis, especially the hiddenrisks on campus.Four common drawbacks have stood out: The responsibilities ofcampus crisis management are shouldered by one single agency; response canhardly be made in time; the scope of response is too limited; and the responsemechanisms are only makeshift ones. Little importance has been attached to theoverall review of campus crisis and in-depth, systematic studies on crisismanagement mechanisms and strategies. In addition, knowledge of disasters, crisisand safety is often neglected in today's exam-oriented education. Drills to practicedealing with crisis are seldom or never carried out.The campus crisis events frequently happen in recent years. Against thisbackground, colleges and universities must face the problem and pay muchattention on the management of the campus crisis and cultivation of student'semergency ability. The production and development of campus crisis is a dynamicprocess which is organized, planned and continual. The management of campuscrisis is a synthetical ability test of coping with campus crisis. So, according to thenew characteristics of campus crisis, we should make campus crisis preventing andcontrolling linkage strategy of the school and related departments in order to warnand prevent, control and deal with, recover and remedy campus crisis. This articlestudies the campus crisis management from four parts: the basic theory, the currentacademic environment, artifice, cultivation of the students' emergency ability. The emergency ability is a significant component of the students'syntheticallycapabilities, which is an ability of practicing and can only be obtained by postnatal learning through systematical education. Apart from enhancing crisis education forstudents, universities should pay more attention to training them for practicaloperation.
