View of mathematics is defined as how to think about mathematics in all. It belongs to philosophy of mathematics. Primary teachers' view about mathematics could be showed from their view about mathematical content, mathematics teaching and learning. The primary teachers' view of mathematics, according to the argument of Paul Ernest, was classified into three categories: the instrumentalist view, the Platonist view, and the problem solving view. The research method was designed by the integration of both quantitative and qualitative. Main findings and conclusions are as follows:1. The tendency of primary teachers' view of mathematics in sequence from high to low is: the Platonist, the problem solving, and the instrumentalist view.2. The questionnaire and interview results revealed that primary teachers' subject backgrounds, working zones, and school ages all could have effects on their view of mathematics.3. The additional factors, such as mathematical textbook or the grade settings of primary teachers, could also influence the teachers' view of mathematics.4. Three views are not conflicting but overlapping. |
