National Education Association of the United States is an age-old nongovernmental educational organization and the largest teachers' group in the world. In its 150 years' history, the association has brought far-reaching influence on American education. American high school and teaching profession being two cases, this dissertion analyzes the function of NEA in the development of American education so as to provide our educational reform and development with useful experience.The rise of American high school is an example of successful American education and an illustration of NEA's influence on American education. In the course of the development of high school, the NEA organized some committees on the function, curriculum and school system of high school. These committees made fruitful efforts and put forward a lot of constructive suggestions.American teaching profession was confronted with some difficulties: teachers' economic and social status was too low; the teaching group was unstable; the standard of teaching profession was too low. The NEA paid close attention to teaching profession and made great efforts on teachers' welfare and professionalization.In its 150 years' history, the work and efforts made by the NEA has become a good example of educational organizations and aroused general concern of educational field in the world.
