The Involvement Of Judicial Social Work In Juvenile Delinquency

The problem of juvenile delinquency has become one of the major social problem nowadays,it’s also the major issues we need to solve. On one hand, as a special group, juvenile’s intelligence condition, discretion ability and self-control capability are not yet matured, their criminal behaviors are often influenced by external factors, such as family, environment, social, etc. So their subjective evil and harm to society are not so serious as that of adults. On the other hand,juveniles represent the future of the society. If we can take some effective prevention or offer positive guidance to them right after their criminal behaviors appear, it will be not only the active protection of juvenile, but also a strong maintenance of social stability. As the using of social work in the field of justice, justice social work aim to help the problem group through professional approach involved in the administration of justice. Because of its relatively "soft" means, which reflects the theory of “Education is better than punishment” in the juvenile justice system, the justice social work become an effective approach in dealing with juvenile delinquency. Shanghai Sunshine Juvenile Affairs Centre has made some achievements since it’s establishment in 2003.It established a full-time social work team in juvenile crime-related work under it’s management thinking pattern which leveraged the society measures.This paper mainly introduced the foundation and working mechanism of the social work in the H District. In the form of case analysis, the paper describes how the justice social work intervene the juvenile delinquency in 4 specific modes, which are juvenile delinquency prevention, critical prevention, recidivism prevention and rights protection. From that we can analyze the main features and deficiencies of the justice social work in H district, and able to offer improvement suggestions to the intervention of social work in juvenile delinquency in Shanghai.
