As an important content of the experimental science teaching in primary school (ESTPS), contrast experiments, which have great influence in the experimental teaching, play an important role in improving the students’ scientific accomplishment, and have aroused great attention of Science teachers.By consulting and sorting the related research in ESTPS, analyzing the current teaching situation of contrast experiments, specific problems of ESTPS, such as insufficient identifying of variants, insufficient control of variants and invariants, inconsistency of the experiment plan and its operation, a lack of rigor in collecting and dealing with the evidences and unpersuasive conclusions, etc., are analyzed and demonstrated in this paper. Based on classroom teaching, applying the Kemmis Four-Link Research Method, three spiraling practice researches about contrast experiments were conducted in the case of A Simple Thermometer. By researching and analyzing the relevant materials collected by observing, interviewing and intervene experiments, the paper analyses the final class teaching record in details.Aiming at the real problems of teaching practice, this paper presents the progressive instructional design about optimization contrast experiments in ESTPS. This paper also presents the improvement process about enhancing the teaching effect, in which teachers improve their guidance levels in the contrast experiment teaching and have richer experiences in the instructional design practice. Progressive instructional design pattern helps students develop their comprehensive inquiry abilities in experiment planning, operation, observing, analyzing and so on. The pattern, which makes contrast experiments more relevant, more operable and more effective, also helps improve the students’ scientific accomplishment. With the teachers’experiences and teaching reflection in the process of practicing the instructional design, the teaching practice and theories of teachers will also be improved. At the same time, the paper provides teachers with research theories, practical inspiration, and the most direct and operable reference, which will lead to the reform of teaching methods of teachers and learning styles of students.
