As the earliest and most comprehensive group which contacts with foreign advancedcivilization in modern Hunan Province, Hunan Returned Students had have a fully understand ofthe development of foreign women in education, economy, politics and other aspects. In the issue,they recognized the importance of the development of women education on female independence,their family, society and the whole country. With the resolute belief of liberating the women andachieving national independence and affluence, the Modern Returned Students of Hunanpromoted the importance and necessity of developing the education of women to the people, atthe same time, they devoted themselves to the practice of developing women education, some ofthem founded schools for girls, some taught at girls’ school, some established newspapers andjournals or organized associations to try to make use of the power of public to develop womeneducation, some campaigned hard for the right of women to study abroad. The Modern HunanReturned Students is the main force of promoting the development of women education inHunan. They played an important role in developing women education and bailing them out ofthe feudal oppression.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction, which includes thecause and significance of the study, research status, concept definition, the key and difficultresearch point, research methods and innovation points of the paper. The second part is anoverview of the development of modern returned education in Hunan, this part are consist ofthree aspects: the budding stage of Modern Hunan foreign education, the growth stage ofModern Hunan foreign education, the regression stage of Modern Hunan foreign education. Thenbriefly analysis the reasons of why the Hunan students chose to study in different countries ineach stage. The third part is the introduction of the points of developing women education of theReturned Students, from this part, we can know theirs points on the purpose, the effects ofdeveloping women education, and how to manage the women education. Through this part, thewriter trys to reveal the contribution of concept developed on women education of ReturnedStudents. The fourth part is about the Returned Students’ practice of women education in Hunan,and theirs contribution and influence in the development of Modern Hunan women education.The fifth part is the evaluation of what the Hunan Returned Students done, which based on theeffects of promoting women liberation in political, economic, education, marriage and otheraspects, then analysis its shortcomings and defects on developing women education, andproviding enlightenment for the current study and practice.
