The teacher's image is an important component of figural images in textbooks, which lays important and imperceptibly influence on students' development. A new course advocating the thought of education should be a return to life, guiding students to feel and experience life. Therefore, whether the teacher's image in textbooks is appropriate or not can have good or bad influences on students. Textbook is the significant medium of the curriculum implementation, and it bears too many wishes and expectations of the public. The teacher's image is frequently appeared in Chinese textbook, which deserves our more and more researches as it is an important cultural phenomenon. As a compulsory education's course, Experimental Chinese text book that published by People's Education Press, is one of the commonly used text books in China up to till now. However, the teacher's images in this textbook exists clear or unobvious problems that will be passed on from generation to generation, which must exert bad influence on students if not correct them effectively. This is why the author chooses this topic for the thesis.This paper investigated the historic transmission of teacher's image, pointing out the rationalities as well as deficiencies of "Red candle theory", "Engineer theory", "Gardener theory", "Navigator theory", and etc. Besides, the author cleans up many images of teacher in old times, and shows the hardships in the research of this topic. As the final medium of curriculum implementation, textbook is not only the reflection of all kinds of subjects ruled by related course standards, but also the transmission of national will and specific culture. What's more, Chinese textbook is the symbol of whole nation's spirit, and accordingly, to show the teacher's image in Chinese text book is of special significance.In this thesis, the teacher's image in texts is anglicized from teachers' sex, accomplishment, and behavior; and the last two are more discussed by classifying accomplishment into teacher's professional ethics, academic attainments, dividing behavior into instructional action and educational action. And then it also analyzes the teacher's image in illustrations of the textbook. This paper chooses all the 18 books published by People's Education Press from grade 1 to grade 9 in the compulsory education period, so as to guarantee its research scientific. The reasons of why choose People's Education Press version as the research object are mainly two points. The first one is that People's Education Press has very abundant experience in textbook selection and edit. The second reason is that the popularity and universality of the textbook from People's Education Press exceed greatly than other versions in China. Being practical and realistic, the author tends to lay more emphasis on objective description on facts, instead of subjective conjecture or assessment. In the process of detailed analysis on teacher's image, the author makes the Teacher's Handbook published by the same press as the textbook.By analysis on the teacher's image in textbooks, we found out that the issues were including three points. From the perspective of sex, man teacher's dominant image against woman teacher tends to be obvious:the number of man teachers was roughly twice of woman teachers. From the perspective of accomplishment, it was not paid enough attention to, nor had adequate overall understanding towards teacher profession. In the perspective of teacher's behaviors, we tend to pay too much attention on teachers' teaching action, leaving no enough emphasis on other actions. And the difference between woman and man teacher's actions is not obvious enough.To these issues, the author thinks that we should improve the teacher's image in textbooks from mainly two aspects:(1) to enrich the theoretical research on teacher image:firstly to treat the individuality and generality of teaching profession in dialectic way; then to make the unity of "human" and "teacher", which let the teacher's image more generous and fulfilled. Secondly to strengthen the propagation on teacher's image, then let more and more people fully understand it. (2) to enhance the selection and edit regulations, make full researches on edit theories of textbook, and introduce more experts from all fields into this process. Besides, we should select most advanced knowledge and perfect the verifying regulation system, promoting more updated teacher's image to enter textbooks. This is the basis of students'understanding, and cognizing towards the teacher's image.
