Junior secondary is an important period for students'sex role socialization, and it is also a critical period for students to form a scientific outlook towards the world and life. As junior high school students spend most of their time at school, so the textbooks the students use will have an important effect on them. Since textbooks possess rich cultural connotation, which is the important carrier of the subject knowledge and culture. The female concept and female image in the textbooks have a great effect on the students to form a correct female concept and female dream.Taking two versions of junior middle school language teaching material published by People's Education Press for example, this paper purposed on analyzing and comparing the difference on women image between the two versions of textbooks with ten years interval. This paper focuses on the comparison of the connotation of female image between the two versions with the purpose of investigating the changes and deficiencies.The researched subject was proposed in the preface. Meanwhile, the basic concepts of the female image in language teaching material are expounded.The necessity to research female image in junior middle school language teaching textbooks is expounded in the first chapter. It discusses the cultural background for the research of female image in the language teaching textbooks; It discusses the necessity of enhancing the education of female awareness according to the investigation on the topic of junior middle school students' understanding level of female problems; It also expounds the current research status on the female problems in the language teaching textbooks by academic circles. The views of this paper has also be included. Meanwhile significance of the connotation was also expounded in this paper.In the second chapter, it compares the difference of the female image between the new version and the old one published by People's Education Press. Firstly it summarizes the basic state of the textbooks. Then it analyzes and statistics the female image on the perspective of role connotation, character connotation, and the arrangement of courses. At the same time, it sums up some comparative data.The third chapter demonstrated analysis and evaluation of content arrangement of two versions on the female image education. According to the statistical data, it analyzes and evaluates the two versions from the following respects:the basic situation, female image of women's roles, female character connotation and course content arrangement. Then it points out the changes on the female image and the settings of female connotation between the two versions and affirms the progressive significance.In the conclusion, some preliminary proposals on the arrangement of female image in the language teaching textbooks are advised.
