Women's population took more than half the total in Russia since the 20th Century, any social activity of such a large number of population is important to Russia.The thesis mainly anylyzes factors that affect women's movement in Russia, history of women's movement in Russia and situations of women's movement during the Transition period. The article attributes factors that affect women's movement in Russia to two baisic ones, that is political & economical and cultural and social, these two are complementary. Political & economical factor is the hard one, research on it can give us a clear picture of how to define women's status in a country during a certain period; cultural & Social factor is the soft one, it reflects much of human background of formation of women's status in a country. The author agree with views of sociologists: women issue is hidden by class issue during the Soviet Union period. However, Ideology can not obliterate the remarkable achievement of improvement of women's status during that period, so we can say that, compared with that of world, women's status in Soviet Union is rather high. Research on women's status of this important period can make us give a comparison with that of Russia after the collapse of Soviet Union, and partly explains the forming background of women's movement in Russia. The article studies situations of women's movement in Russia during the Transition period and summerizes the general conditions and main characteristics of this period.According to the basic principle of Marxism on interaction between economic base and suprerstructure, the author cocludes that the prime way of raising women's engaging in politics is to improve women's economic status, which is also should be the focus of women's movement in Russia in a long term.
