With the development of international goods exchange, foreign capital attraction has become an important form of international economy cooperation. Production internationalization has made cross-border capital flow a more and more common phenomenon. Accompanied by multi-national companies (MNCs), foreign or overseas direct investment (FDI) has become a dynamic source for international economy growth. Some international authoritative literature even terms FDI "the engine of economy increase". The global FDI has an important effect on the growth of world economy. Especially since 1990's, with trade and investment as the main carriers, world economy integration and regional group development show a stronger and stronger development momentum. The mutual-penetration and mutual-dependence between nations deepen. FDI gains high attention from each government, especially from those transition economies that have foreign capital attraction as one of their strategic targets of foreign economic policies. The analysis and research of FDI can penetrate into the success or failure of regional economic policies, and even the attraction power of a particular area or industrial area. Thus, as the largest successor to the broken Soviet Union and as a transition economy, what about the FDI that Russia attracts in its economy recovery and development? What is the size and characteristics? How does FDI play its role and affect Russia economy? Of course we shouldn't neglect the political, economic, and strategic environment in the process of Russia's FDI attraction. All these are to be discussed in this assay. The assay has five parts in all. At the outset, the first part tells of the status quo and characteristics of Russia's FDI attraction. The second part tells of something about the political, economic and strategic environment relating to Russia's FDI attraction. The third part lists out the influences that FDI has on Russia's economyfrom three aspects. Emphasis is put on the fourth part that presents the existing problems in Russia's FDI attraction and tries to give out main reasons. Last is the fifth part that concludes this assay.
