The main researching object of this article is painting for the subject matter of the Peach Blossom Spring.By contrasting and the statistics about the amount of painting productions,the time of majority of productions and the active area of artists,we can find out that the painting productions for the subject matter of the Peach Blossom Spring were greatly prevalent in Jiangnan during medium-term and terminal-term of the Ming Dynasty.The main intention of this article is discussing for the painting,appreciation and reason about painting of the Peach Blossom Spring in Jiangnan during medium-term and terminal-term of the Ming Dynasty,especially in the literate circle at the core of Wen Zhengming.For solving this matter,the article firstly arranges the style and representation for the painting of the Peach Blossom Spring during medium-term and terminal-term of the Ming Dynasty.Those painting productions of the Peach Blossom Spring in the background of the special period and the special zone are classified as two parts:the first part which represented the original plot of the story of the Peach Blossom Spring by Tao Yuanming,and the second part which deviated the original plot and expressed by extractive important factors.Based on the classification,the article puts forward three kernel factors for constructing the painting of the Peach Blossom Spring in the period:cave,pool and fisher,field.By researching for the three kernel factors and their expressive meanings,the article could find out that:all of three kernel factors respond to the Peach Blossom Spring by Tao Yuanming in text,have cryptic meanings of reclusion in idea,act in accord with scenery of Jiangnan in real view.The article takes an ulterior step on researching for period phases and mood change while Wen Zhengming painted the Peach Blossom Spring,and finds out these painting productions were all produced when his official career in Beijing was not unfavorable or in the period he returned to the pastoral life.Meanwhile,the article also researches circle of friends of Wen Zhengming, all those friends painted and made inscription for the Peach Blossom Spring had one common feature:they were dejected literator who had frustrations on the imperial examinations repeatedly and had unfavorable official career.The broad printing and publishing of Tao Yuanming's works gave them conditions to read the Peach Blossom Spring,and the landscape of water town in Jiangnan became the real view to paint the Peach Blossom Spring.By producing and appreciating for the painting of the Peach Blossom Spring which had reclusion color,these dejected literator painted with their hometown's landscape and expressed their emotion about the frustrations on the imperial examinations and unrealized ambition.In their opinion,the water town in Jiangnan where they lived is "the Peach Blossom Spring" for reclusion.
