Concept Of The Gods Of The Spring And Autumn Period

The thesis based on the historical records of pre-Qin dynasty in"ZuoZhuan"and"GuoYu"as its blueprint, trying to use spirit as core vocabulary and combining related religious theory, in an attempt to make a study of the important religious thought in the Spring and Autumn Period: the spirit concept. The spirit system of this period was consisted of Heaven, Nature, Tribe, and Function spirits. With the concept of plural spirits, people empowered the Heaven, Nature, and Tribal spirits many supernatural rights. And with these supernatural powers, spirits interfere with people's daily life constantly. People took an active position in praying to seek bless from the spirits and to pursue fortune and escape bad luck in real life therefore a close relationship between man and spirit had been established. The relationship was established mainly through sacrifice and astrology. Heavenly god is the superior god and the doomed concept derived from the belief achieved new development in the Spring and Autumn Period and reestablished in the form of Heaven Concept. And the social reform in this period also caused the up rise of new thoughts, which caused the appearance of"No God"thoughts.
