| The chronic cough refers to the course lasts more than 8 weeks, takes cough as unique or mainly symptom and the X-ray has no obvious pathological changes. The cause of the disease is complicated, not only involving the respiratory system, but also related to the ear, nose, throat, cardiovascular system and the digestive system. So it may waste a great deal of medical resources to diagnose the pathogeny of the chronic cough. As the diagnosis isn't clear, the treatment does not work well. Compared to Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine with unique system has more advantages in the treatment of it. The chronic cough belongs to "obstinate cough", "visceral cough".The disfuncti-on of lung makes cough, the disfunction of other organs also makes cough. Therefore it is significant to study the clincal manifestations of the chronic cough. This study reviewed the cause and pathogenesis, treatment of chronic cough according to the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine, and also summarized the etiological factor, pathogenesis, disgnosis and treatment of the Western medicine. The objective of the study is to investigate the etiological factor pathogenesis, and syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine. Investigate the general conditions of morbidity, diagnosis and treatment and analysis the frequences of each category of 316 patients. Collect all the symptoms of each patien by four methods of examination. Then statistical analyses about syndrome features were performed in line with the syndrome diagnostic criteria of Chinese medicine. Results:The mainly location of the chronic cough is lung, but slao has a close relationship with spleen and liver. Wind, phlegm, fire are the main pathologics. The deficiency of lung-QI and lung-YIN also plays a important part in the chronic cough. There are 5 categories of principal syndromes, which pathogenic wind invading lung occupies 36.4%, the deficiency of lung-QI occupies 28.2%,obstruction of lung by phlegm occupies 26.3%, the deficiency of lung-YIN occupies 22.5%, liver-fire reversely restraining lung occupies 15.2%. Among the accompanied symptoms and signs the damp-heat in the middle-JIAO, the deficency of spleen-QI, hyperactivity of cardiac-fire, stagnation of QI due to depression of the liver, obstruction of extravasated blood have high frequency. This study has drawn preliminary conclusions and understanding of the pathogenesis and syndrome characteristics of chronic cough, which can provide certain ideas and direction of Chinese medicine treatment. |
