| This essay consists of 2 parts:Literature Review and Clinical Research.Literature review:Retrospective studied the fundamental and clinical research advances on climacteric syndrome and breast-cancer associated climacteric syndrome like illness, focusing on the diagnostic criteria, etiology, clinical features, TCM recognition and recent advances of TCM and western medicine treatment. Comprehensively analyzed the clinical features of treatment especially endocrine therapy induced climacteric syndrome like illness, which may greatly worsen the life quality if breast-cancer patients, and reduce the overall effectiveness by stopping their standardized treatment. This has drag global attention and there are some reports published on TCM treatment intervention, but further assessments are required, both for its effectiveness and safety.Clinical research:Objective:To observe the effectiveness and safety of Yin-enriching Blood-cooling Liver-soothing Heat-clearing TCM herbal therapy for the treatment of endocrine therapy induced breast-cancer associated climacteric syndrome like illness.Method:Breast-cancer associated climacteric syndrome like illness patients who could be differentiated into depletion of kidney-yin and depression-heat of liver meridian syndrome are recruited. All subjects were given original endocrine therapy plus modified TCM decoction of Danzhi Xiaoyao San and Erzhi Wan,2 times per day for 2 months. Menopausal symptoms were measured using the Kupperman index before and after TCM intervention. Life-quality, serum female hormone level, tumor recurrence and metastasis indexes, hematological and hepatic and renal functions were all examined.Results:26 subjects are recruited. The remission rate of TCM intervention is 76.9%. The following symptoms are significantly relieved with statistic difference:tidal heat and sweating, easily excited, depressed and suspicious, arthralgia, palpitation. And serum female hormone (eg. estrogen) levels are steady before and after TCM therapy, so patients'risk for tumor recurrence and metastasis does mot increase. But a few hematological renal and hepatic adverse effects are observed during TCM intervention.Conclusion:Yin-enriching Blood-cooling Liver-soothing Heat-clearing TCM herbal therapy is effective to relieve endocrine therapy induced breast-cancer associated climacteric syndrome like illness, with high safety. But further multi-centre large-sample and longer duration studies are required... |
