Objective:To investigate the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) and microvascular density(MVD) in human melanoma(MM).Methods:Tissue section from 45 MM patients were examined. The expression of VEGF, bFGF was detected using immunohistochemistry technique. MVD was also counted by immuno-staining with Fâ…§.Results:33 cases of MM tissue express VEGF;27 cases express bFGF and no expression of VEGF, bFGF in nevus pigmentosus (P<0.05, r=0.385). There were positive correlation between VEGF and bFGF. The MVD of MM were significantly higher than in pigmented mole. The expression of VEGF and bFGF were significantly higher in the group with lymphnode metastasis(P<0.05), there was significantly difference on the expression of MVD between the group with lymphnode metastasis and without lymphnode metastasis(P<0.05).Conclusion:The MVD increase along with the high expression of VEGF and bFGF in MM. VEGF and bFGF have synergistic effects on promoting angiopoiesis and tumor metastasis in MM.
