Chinese medicine has it' s own individual distinguishing features and specific patterns when treatingdifferent diseases with Chinese drugs.Abdominal mass(ZhengJu) is not only a common illness in ancient times,but also attributes to several diseases in modern medicine.Thus,it's research of treatment with Chinese drugs in ancient times has strong reference value for today' streatment. Chinese doctors of Qing Dynasty deve]oped and innovated the theory and treatment of abdominal mass through accumulating and summing up from their predecessors. Norms and characteristics of abdominal mass are clear,literature from that time is objective,that is why medical literature on treatment of ZhengJu from that period has been chosen for research.This study thus shows the distinguishing features and drug combination in treatment of abdominal mass from Qing Dynasty.This paper first summarizes the ZhengJu treatments in ancient Chinese Medicine and then shows the development and innovations during Qing Dynasty, including new concepts and formulas as well as treatment patterns.Using "Chinese medical catalogue of ancient literature" as a reference source, chose a wide range of Chinese medical cases that best demonstrated the best treatments of abdominal mass during Qing Dynasty,after which selected a criteria for the chosen cases.Used Access database for statistical analysis of Chinese drugs groups.Collected a total of 85 medical cases with 219 Chinese drugs,used 1068 times a]together.Statisticsl results show that 23 Chinese drugs,with used frequency above 1%,make up 49.30%from the total number of times.There is a total of 18 categories of drugs in Qing Dynasty related to treatment of abdominal mass;9types of drugs, including qi-regulating and tonifying drugs,occupy 83.52%from total drug usage. Qi-regulating and tonifying drugs make up the principal base in Chinese formulas from Qing Dynasty.Blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs,warming drugs, phlegm-resolving antitussive and antasthmatic drugs,damp-draining drugs, heat-clearing drugs,exterior-releasing drugs,as well as digestant drugs make up the main assisting drugs in Chinese formulas.The therapeutic methods in treating abdominal mass can be divided into 8 groups:obstruction-removing,heat-clearing,warming,purgative,mediating, soothing,transforming-removing(Hua) and resolving methods.Doctors from Qing Dynasty often used combinations of different methods,like resolving and tonifyng, obstruction-removing and tonifying,cooling and warming used together,as well as decoction and bolus taken orally together.Warm and neutral drugs make up the majority of drugs,followed by hot,cold, mildly warm,mildly cold,and very hot drugs.Pungent,bitter and sweet drugs are used more frequently than others.Main attention is given to the spleen, stomach and liver meridians when choosing channel tropism.Common prescriptions include the Four Noble drugs,Six Noble drugs,Cyperus and Amomum with Six Noble Ingredients with modification of harmonizing the spleen and stomach.
