| Objective:To investigate the mesothelin(MESO) mRNA and protein expressions in the epithelial ovarian carcinoma and to analyze the correlation between MESO and ovarian carcinoma. Methods:The protein and mRNA expressions of MESO were separately detected by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR in epithelial ovarian cancer.1.MESOmRNA(1) The mRNA expressions of MESO in epithelial ovarian carcinoma(1.4005±0.4646) and borderline ovarian tumor(1.0650±0.3100) were higher than in benign ovarian tumor (0.6463±0.2419) and normal ovarian tissues(0.6439±0.2729)(P=0.000,0.000,0.033,0.047,P<0.05).(2)The mRNA expressions of MESO were related to the grading, staging, the amount of scites(P=0.021,0.048,0.032,P<0.05),but not related to the patients age or serum CA125(P=0.142,0.116,P<0.05).(3)The mRNA expressions of MESO in serous ovarian carcinoma(1.5255±0.4151 ) were higher than in mucinous ovarian carcinoma(1.0675±0.3149)(P=0.007,P<0.05).2.MESO protein(1) The protein expressions of MESO in epithelial ovarian carcinoma(2.7857±2.2712 ) and borderline ovarian tumor(2.9167±2.3916) were higher than in benign ovarian tumor (1.2500±1.6125 )and normal ovarian tissues(0.1967±1.2401)(P=0.009,0.005,0.043,0.023,P<0.05).(2).The protein expressions of MESO were related to the grading, staging and the amount of ascites(P=0.008,0.015,0.002,P<0.05),but not related to the patients age or serum CA125(P=0.095,0.351,P>0.05.)(3).The protein expressions of MESO in serous ovarian carcinoma(3.0336±2.6141) were higher than in mucinous ovarian carcinoma(1.0556±1.9242)(P=0.039,P<0.05).Conclusion:1.MESO was highly expressed in ovarian carcinoma,MESO may played a role in the carcinogenesis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma.2.The expression of MESO was related to the development of epithelial ovarian carcinoma,MESO may play a role in the development of epithelial ovarian carcinoma by regulating tumor adhesion;Measurement of the expression of MESO maybe helpful in predicting prognosis.3.MESO was increased expression in ovarian carcinoma with ascites,MESO may induce the creation of ascites. |
