Objective:To study epidemiology of the degenerative scoliosis.Methods:1000 patients with lumbodynia, lower limbs pain or intermittent claudication were examined for degenerative scoliosis by X-ray.Each patients was measured with Cobb's angle. The ten of degree of Cobb's angle was as standard for patient. The four types of scolosis have been recorded separately which is typeⅠ10°≤25°,typeⅡ26°≤35°,typeⅢ36°≤45°,typeⅣ>45°.Results:136 patiens were definitely diagnosed to have degenerative scoliosis, with a prevalence of 136/1000.The rate was 12.5/100 in males and 15.2/100 in female. The female/male ratio was almost 1:1.It was 91.9%older than 60 years old and the Cobb's angle was above10°in 136(13.6%).The Cobb's angle was typeⅠ10°-25°in 94(69.1%),typeⅡ26°-35°in 22(16.2%),typeⅢ36°-45°in 13(9.6 %)and typeⅣ>45°in 7(5.1%).The average of Cobb's angle was 25.1°.Conclusions:Degenerative scoliosis tends to develop severely with patients'age increasing, illness frequency rate of degenerative lumbar scoliosis on left is as same as of degenerative lumbar scoliosis on right.Men and Women have the same illness frequency rate of degenerative lumbar scoliosis.Middle-aged and aged patients, especially above 60 years old, should be examined actively and be reated earlierly to relieve their pains.
