Objective:1. To analyze the level of undergraduate nursing students'knowledge and attitude regarding pain and their learning need on pain knowledge, designing Pain Training Program (PTP) for undergraduate nursing students in practice.2. To assess the effects of Pain Training Program on undergraduate nursing students'knowledge and attitude regarding pain.Methods:1. Design Pain Training Program (PTP): selecting undergraduate nursing students who are practicing in The First Affiliated Hospital of Shanxi Medical University as the objects of study. We used a survey approach to collect information from nursing students about their knowledge and attitude regarding pain and their learning need. Based on the Systemic Professional Training Mode, we designed Pain Training Program (PTP).2. Intervention: We divided the students into two groups: training group and control group. According to the PTP, the training group students received pain knowledge training for four weeks (16 classes in all). They contents pain knowledge, analgesic knowledge, acute pain and chronic pain assessment, therapy and nursing, cancerous pain assessment, therapy and nursing.3. Evaluation: After training, we evaluated the level of training group and control group nursing students'knowledge and attitude regarding pain. And the training group students using"the scale of classroom teaching quality evaluation"to evaluated the training. At last the data was coordinated and analyzed with SPSS 11.5 software and analyzed by descriptive statistics t test, chi square test ect.Results:1. Before training, the survey showed that the nursing students lack the pain knowledge and they had wrong attitude toward pain management. And we designed Pain Training Program (PTP) for undergraduate nursing students in practice.2. After training, the training group students'average scores of"Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain"(NKAS) improved from 15.40 to 21.55, and the other dimensions also had a higher scores. After training, the scores of training group (21.55) were significantly higher than ones of the control class (16.96). And the training group students were satisfied with the classroom teaching quality.3. After training, the training group students'behavior and attitudes has changed. And the training also can improve patients'satisfaction level with their care. Above all, the nursing students who received the training significantly increased their mean scores in knowledge and attitude regarding pain than those of baseline and control group students. The designed PTP is effective.Conclusion:1. The PTP does impact on undergraduate nursing students'knowledge and attitude regarding pain. It is effective in improving nursing students'knowledge, attitude and pain assessment practice.2. The PTP is effective and feasible. It is worth to extend in the pain nursing education.
