With the wide.spread of HIV and the implementation of the 'Four Free and One Care'policy, more and more HIV-infected patients received antiretroviral therapy (ART) inChina, especially for HIV-infected former commercial and plasma donors in ruralareas. It is a big challenge for patients to maintain a high level of medicationadherence. There have been few studies related to ART in China. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess antiretroviral ahherence inHIV-infected former commercial and plasma donors in Anhui Province, and toidentify the associated factors of antiretroviral adherence in HIV-infected patients.Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 72 patients receiving free ART inFuyang, Anhui province. Paticipates were answered by questionnaires including'General Demographic and Treatment Form', 'Adherence to AntiretroviralMedications Questionnaire' and 'Attitudes toward HIV Health Care Providers Scale'.The adherence rate was calculated as the number of doses taken divided by thenumber prescribed in the past four days. Results: The mean self-reported adherence of 70 participants was85.5% (50%-100%),and 30 patients reported≥95% adherence in the past four days (42.9%). The mostreasons of missing doses were farming, not staying at home, forgetting to takemedicine and afraid to be seen by others when they took the medicine. The factorsrelated to the adherence of ART for the HIV-infected patients included patients' age, children amount, medication knowledge, and self-efficacy.Conclusion: The results indicated that the antiretroviral adherence in HIV-infectedformer commercial and plasma donors were in moderate level. It's necessary toimprove their adherence to ART. Healthcare providers should provide continuoussupport and individualized interventions to improve patients'medication knowledgeand self-efficacy, and enhance their medication adherence.
