Objective: Literature is reflection of research. Features in medical documents includethe number of document increases very quickly, the publication types are numerous, thecontext in a field often repels and scatters, all of these make it difficult for researchers toget the information accurately, comprehensively and promptly. Therefore, it is essential toanalyze the documents with some scientific methods. In this paper, we tried to find out thehistory, status, hot topics and trend of research on Integrated Traditional and WesternMedicine with bibliometrics method. The purpose is to provide more usefulinformation guide for researchers in the fields.Methods: Literatures from CBM, CJFD and PubMed published from 1956 to 2005,were collected and analyzed with the productivity analysis, cluster analysis,Logistic Mode of Documents, Bradford's Law of Scattering. All data wereprocessed by computer assisted information analysis.Results:We analyzed and contrasted all documents published in core journals fromCBM, CJFD and PubMed in amount and document type. There were 7668 articlesrelated to Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine from 1956 to 2005, whichincreased step by step; the articles are mainly published in original paperswhich is about clinical medicine. The major resources focused on thetraditional medicine journals, such as,; the important research institutions are medicalcolleges and their attached hospitals; the eminent and most productive authorsoften worked at the important institutions. All in all, the study related to"integrated traditional and Western medicine" is more than before, mostpapers are clinical studies, we should pay more attentions to theoreticalstudies.
