Benzil is an significant chemical materials, It's the major intermediate forsynthesis of medicine phenytoin, mesoporous catalyst of a new type catalyst was usedinto the oxidation of benzoin and its approximate compounds firstly. In theexperiment of oxidation of benzoin to benzil, We mainly investigationed theinfluences of reaction temperature, reaction time, amount of 30% H2O2 and catalyst,species of catalyst and solvent. Finally we obtained two the better oxidation systems:H2O2 - Co/MTiO2- pyridine and H2O2 or Air-Co/MCM-41-acetic acid. The twobetter oxidation systems can highly selective oxidation of benzoin to benzilsuccessfully, The conversion rate of benzoin was arrived to 100% and the selectivityof benzil exceeded 80%. In the recovery test of catalyst Co/MCM-41 and Co/MTiO2,it proved that the two catalysts had satisfactory recovery, and the catalytic activitynearly keep the same when it was used four times. The synthetic route about oxidationof benzoin to benzil over mesoporous catalyst as catalyst is the used,green, economic and simple method. In addition we founded H2O2 and mesoporouscatalyst can oxidate TMT (3,4,5-Trimethoxytoluene) into CoenzymeQ0(2,3-Dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone) without any solvent. Eventually, weexplored initially the oxidation of xylene and p-toluic acid over mesoporous catalysts.
