Foot Yangming Stomach Root Of Specimens Theory And Application

The theory of position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians are an important content of the science of acupuncture and moxibustion and the science of meridian. Due to the fact that literary records go far back to ancient times, current existence of these records is relatively scarce. Currently scholars of acupuncture and moxibustion mainly focus on the research of the application of the twelve meridians and eight extra meridians and research regarding the theory of position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians is scarce. Yet the theory of position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians has an important place clinically and therefore research in this area is needed. Scholars have differing views regarding the location of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians.This thesis has three parts. The first part discusses the theoretical records regarding the location of the meridians. The second part addresses origin and development of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming. The third part analyzes the application of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians and the theory of Qi-streets.The first part through the research of classic documents, investigates the theory of position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians and the theory of Qi-streets and four seas. Through the method of philology and gathering of ancient literary documents, analyze the description and development of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians. Evaluate the cyclical flowing, distribution and interaction of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians and the theory of Qi-streets and four seas, thus providing philological documentation for further study.The second part is the main focus of this thesis. Through the accumulation of classical documents, evaluate the description and development of the cyclical flowing of stomach meridian of foot-yangming, and organize the viewpoints of scholars, those preceding Song dynasty, Song Dynasty, Jin-Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, regarding the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming. Also discuss the viewpoints of ancient scholars regarding"forehead"and"nasopharynx".Next research and evaluate documents regarding the indication and clinical characteristics of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming during the time preceding Song dynasty, Song Dynasty, Jin-Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynastya and Qing Dynasty.Summarize the clinical application and cyclical flowing of the corresponding acupoints along the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming, and investigate the relationship between stomach meridian of yangming and Qi-streets and four seas.Lastly summarize the cyclical flowing between the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming and the cyclical flowing of meridian-Qi. More importantly emphasize the concept of"forehead"and its location along the stomach meridian of foot-yangming. Thereby understanding the relationship between the two ends of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming, and reaffirm the importance of the position of starting meridian-Qi.The third part is the research of clauses found in the"Miraculous Pivot"regarding the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi, and emphasis on specific clinical applications and methods. Through drawing reference from the five-shu acupoints and corresponding four periods of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming, reevaluate the significance of the four periods of reinforcing and reducing methods.The main purpose of this thesis is to fully understand the significance of the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians and the theory of Qi-streets, and at the same time investigate the relationship between the position of starting and gathering of meridian-Qi and root and branch of meridians of the stomach meridian of foot-yangming and Qi-streets and four seas and its corresponding clinical applications. Through the following research this thesis hopes to contribute towards a better understanding of the meridian doctrine and the application of clinical practice.
