Urticaria affects 15% to 20% of the population once or more during a life time. Common urticarial lesions consist of pruritic erythematous papules, plaques, or wheals that vary from about a millimeter to several centimeters or large in size. These lesions are usually transient, lasting less than four hours. The cause of urticaria can be certain foods, drugs, including blood products, physical stimulus, infections, wasp or bee sting, fluctuated emotions, and so on. But some of the cause, especially for the chronic urticaria, remains a mystery. Urticaria may be produced by immunologic or nonimmunologic means. And it is usually controlled by antihistamins. Some patients will require a combination of H1 and H2 antagonists, or even parenteral corticoteroids. The paper consists of two summaries of literature. The first one is about the viewpoint and research of urticaria in Chinese medicine's point of view. It was disserted from the respects including name, pathogeny, curative experience and the general situation of urticaria research during the past decade. The emphasis is laid on the last two respects. In summary ,although there are some deficiency in research method, Chinese medicine have many advantages such as soundly theory, various remedies and good curative effect without side effect, especially to the chronic patient. The second one is mainly about the headway of recent years'study in urticaria, including the causation, pathogeny, clinical symptoms, and clinical treatment. The emphasis is laid on the pathogeny and the clinical treatment. Modern medicine has obvious curative effect, especially to the acute patient. But their side effects, however, should be seriously considered: anticholinergic effects with blurred vision, urine retention, dryness of the mouth, and the like. What's more, the symptom was inclined to relapse once the treatment is stopped.According to the literatures, I divide urticaria into 11 types, and summarize the rule of using Chinese medicine to treat it in each type. I believe if we use a combination of modern medicine and Chinese medicine, urticaria can be cured. |
