Brain is an important organ and plays a pivocal role in vital movement. Brain, as desicribed in Chinese terms, has an anatomical and physiological characteristic of supremacy, clean spirit, pure yang, full-love and deficient-hate, silence-love and disturbance-hate, et al. The central function of brain is mind or soul.Because of the physiological characteristic , brain has a specific function in the zang-fu organs , yi-yang and qi movement including ascending and descending, which make an great influence to the body. The theory of zang-fu organs, yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement is instructed by the philosophical thought that man, as a microcosm, is connected with the macrocosm. According to this theory, the attribute of upward and downward tendency was distinguished by yin and yang, the movement was defined as qi ascending and descending, and substant was determined by the balance of zang-fu organs function. This article discussed the physiological characteristics of brain and mechanism of brain diseases from the angle of theory of zang-fu organs , yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement.This article included three parts as follows:Part one introduced the anatomical and physiological characteristic and function, the main content of theory of zang-fu organs , yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement.Part two described the physiological change of brain in the process of zang-fu organs , yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement from three aspects including basic, pivot and path.Part three illustrated the genesis of brain disease induced by disorder of zang-fu organs , yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement, meanwhile enumerated the mechanism and species of brain diseases.In the appendix, the clinical manifestation, the therapeutical principle, and the common prescriptions and drugs of brain disease induced by disorder of zang-fu organs , yin-yang and qi ascending and descending movement were enumerated, which could be used as a clinical reference of brain diseases to Chinese medicine doctors.
