In this paper, biomaterial poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA) was synthesized and evaluated. The synthesis, purification, polymerization of lactide and the test of properties was studied in detail.PLLA was synthesized by indirect method and stannous caprylate was selected as the catalyst. The relation of both the dose of catalyst, the temperature of reaction, the time of reaction and the molecular viscosity—average weight of the PLLA was investigated. The properties of PLLA were characterized by DSC, TGA and SEM. The physical and chemical properties such as content of amiable oxidation matter, pH, leftover after evaporation and thermal-decomposability were tested and biological properties were evaluated such as cell planting, stimulating and hypersusceptibility according to Chinere GB/T-16886, Chinese national codex, ISO.1135-4-87 and ISO1135/5..The result shows the viscosity-average molecular weight of poly(L-lactic acid) attains to 232,000 synthesized by optimizing the reactive conditions. PLLA has good physical and chemical properties and was up to the standards of biomaterial. The results of biological evaluations show PLLA has good biocompatibility and as a kind of tissue regeneration material, it is suitable for animal experimentation in guided tissue regeneration...
