[Objective] To try to apply various methods in establishing the diabetic enteropathy rat model. Evaluate their fitness through observing the changes of the watery degree of stool,the level of gastrointestinal hormones, blood glucose, colon pathology to yield the relatively ideal model-making methods.[Method] The rats were randomly divided into six groups, ie, normal group. DM control group, hydrocortisone group, reserpine group, hydrocortisone and reserpine group, traditional Chinese herb group. The diabetic rat models were induced by streptozotocin.Then the rats were intramuscularly injected with hydrocortisone (hydrocortisone group), reserpine(reserpine group), hydrocortisone and reserpine (hydrocortisone and reserpine group)respectively. The rats in traditional Chinese herb group were given rhubarb decoction by lavage. Determine the watery degree of stool. Detect the level of serum gastrin, plasma motilin, plasma somatostatin and blood glucose. Observe the pathological changes of the rats' colon.[Results] The watery degree of stool of the rats in reserpine group and hydrocortisone and reserpine group are significantly higher than those in the other groups (P<0. 01). The somatostatin level of the rats in those two groups are significantly lower than the other groups (P<0. 01)and the gastrin and motilin level in those two groups are significangly higher(P<0.01). The pathological changes of colon appear in the reserpine group, hydrocortisone and reserpine group, hydrocortisone group , traditional Chinese herb group, but the first two groups are more serious. The blood glucose level has not increased significantly after model-making in hydrocortisone group and hydrocortisone and reserpine group (P>0.05 ) .The mortality in reserpine group is the highest(30%).[Conclusionl Intramuscular injection of reserpine and hydrocortisone is the best model-making method in this experiment.
