| Atopic Dermatitis (AD for short), also known as Hereditary Allergic Eczema,Atopic Eczema, Teyingxing? Dermatitis, Constitutive Eczema, ConstitutiveNeurodermatitis, Internal Causative Eczema, is one of the more commonly seen allergic,inflammatory skin disorders with alternating periods of exacerbation and remission. Thisdisorder is extremely difficult to treat and cure. In recent years, the occurrence of AD inmany developed countries is on the rise. Currently, many attempts by the modernmedicine to treat this skin disorder have been unsatisfactory. Warmth Cold Drink comes from the "metrorrhagia" section of the , the original book referred to it as "Warmth Cold Powder."This prescription contains Danggui, Baishao, Shoudihuang, Chuanxiong, Huanglian,Huangqin, Huangbai, Zhizi, which in turn clears fire, eliminates toxin, driesdampness, regulates ying, nourishes yin, and invigorates the blood. Modern dayresearch by some scholars suggests Warmth Cold Drink has a bi-directional regulatory effecton the immune system. In fact, it proves to be far more effective in treating immunedisorders than medications of the western counterpart. It has anti-inflammatory properties aswell. In clinical practice, it is often used to treat skin disorders caused by theaccumulation of toxins in the body, and the stagnation of blood by the built-up heat inside. This paper is a summary of 96 relatively complete clinical cases gathered by ProfessorWang, Yu Ying at The Japan Research Institute for Intractable Diseases of Western andEastern Medicine from 1992~1995. In these cases, grains of Warmth Clearing Drink orgrains of Warmth Clearing Drink derivatives were used to treat toxins penetrating ying,blood stasis ying heat types of AD. The summary revealed that among the patients who used Warmth Clearing Drink:(1)Adolescents and adults whose ages ranging from 11~30 were the most common,comprising approximately 67.71% of the total number of patients. The average age for thepatients was 22.75+/-8.2 years. (2)Most of the patients have suffered for more than a year atleast. People who dealt with the condition for 11~20 years were the most common.(3)Medium level severity took-up about 66.7% of the patients. (4)68.75% of them were intheir chronic stages. (5)in-take of medication for more the three months took up 89.58%,usage of medication between 6 month to a year took up 36.46%. Treatment results: 25 cases of complete cure, 22.91%; showing definite improvement,47.91%; effective, 19.79%;. Total effectiveness could reach 73.95%. Analysis of the results: effectiveness and course of disease have a close relationship tocourse of treatment. The analysis showed that shorter the course of disease, better theeffectiveness. The course of disease is inversely proportionate to the effectiveness of theprescription. It also showed that longer the course of treatment, better the effectiveness.The course of treatment is directly proportionate to the effectiveness of the treatment. Noapparent relationship between the effectiveness and the severity. The critical aspect of theprocess lies on whether the diagnosis is correct or not. This paper discusses about the proper application, the Jiajian usage, and theprecautions of Warmth Clearing Drink. Proper application: toxin entering ying, blood stasis,ying heat condition. Precaution: not advisable for people with small amount of food intake,and chronic diarrhea, conditions on the acute stage, condition with fairly short course ofdisease, and infants. In order to increase the efficacy, one must persistently take the drink in smallportions for a prolonged period of time. At the same time, reveals two more case studies as reference. |
