Chronic hepatitis B is one of the most serious public health problems in the world. Itis estimated that about 350 million persons with the chronically infection of HBV. Thereis a more serious condition in our nation that about 120 million people have infected byHBV. Though the HBV vaccination has remarkably decreased the incidence of hepatitisB, there are about 28 million chronic hepatitis B patients waiting for the the treatment. There is no ideal therapy to cure the hepatitis B by far, and the combined therapy ofChinese medicine and Western medicine has shown some advantages in the theory andclinical practice. So the combined therapy of lamivudine and herbs was chosen as thetherapy to test in our clinical trial. At the same time, it was found that the people with thedifferent characters always had the different endings. Based on this fact, we investigatedthe chronic hepatitis B patients' personality feature and research the relationship betweenthe patient's personality and TCM syndrome. The whole research is made up of two parts: the theory research part and the clinicalresearch part. The theory research part includes 3 articles. The first article discusses themechanism of the chronic HBV infection. The second article focuses on the developmentof the clinical treating of the chronic hepatitis B in the field of western medicine. Thethird article reviewes the TCM theory about chronic hepatitis B. The clinical researchpart includes two clinical trials. The first trial was designed to test the effect of thecombined therapy of lamivudine and herbs in the chronic hepatitis B patients. The secondtrial investigated the chronic hepatitis B patients' personality feature by the EPQ test anddiscussed the possible relationship between the EPQ score and the "deficient-spleen"syndrom. In the first article, the mechanism about the HBV continuous infection is discussedfrom two sides. One side is the HBV's special abilities which can lead to the continousinfection; the other side is the special immunodeficiency of the host. In the second article, the development of the therapy to cure hepatitis B is reviewed. The antiviral druglamivudine is paid more attention to and done an allround review. The new antiviral drugadefovir dipivoxil and traditional antiviral drug IFN-α are reviewed in the sides of antiviralmechanism, the curative effects and the latest research. In the last review article, theTCM theories about the chronic hepatitis B are discussed. The theorie includes thecharacteristic of the HBV, the evolution of the disease, the principle of treatment, theevaluation of therapeutic efficiency, the latest research of the herbs and the trend of thestudy. Based on the mechanism of the HBV continuous infection and the condition ofchronic hepatitis B's clinical treatment, the combined therapy of herbs and lamivudinewas thought to be promise. In the clinical trial to observe the effect of the combined therapy, 44 chronic hepatitisB patients received the combined therapy of herbs and lamivudine and the result wascompared with the other two groups of patients who received lamivudine treatment andherbs treatment respectively at the same period. The result of this trial suggested that thecombined therapy may have a better effect in the normalization of the ALT, the decreaseof the serum HBV-DNA level, the loss and the seroconversion of the HBeAg. In the otherclinical trial which was designed to investigate the personality feature of the chronic hepatitis B英文摘要 - 3 -patients by the EPQ test and to discuss the possible relationship between the EPQ score and"deficient-spleen" syndrom score. The result indicated that the patients' E score waslower than the healthy people (P<0.05), but the P, N, L scores were similar to the averagepeople (P>0.05). In the same trial, it was proved that the "deficient-spleen" syndromscore was higher than the healthy p...
