| Objective:The present study was designed to explore the efficacy and necessity of acupuncture treatment for stroke rehabilitation by aheadack control study of the limbs functional outcome in two groups patients, and the safety for acute stroke patients. The present study would be to supply a new means for acute stroke rehabilitation, and a scientific evidence for acupuncture treatment improving the functional recovery of stroke patients in the acute stage. Methodsne hundred and four consecutive patients admitted to hospital because of an acute stroke were equally randomized to 2 groups: acupuncture +criteria and criteria. According to the therapeutic principle of tonifying spleen and kidney, eliminating phlegm and removing blood stasis, reviving brain and inducing resuscitation, GV2O S36 S40 SP6 SP1O K3 were selected as the main points, and adjunct acupuncture points as well. The acupuncture treatment given by two acupuncturists that started 1 to 2 days after randomization and was given five times a week for 3'weeks.Two groups patients underwent limb exercises as well. One doctor, blinded regarding the patients allocation, evaluated the treatment effects according to MESSS and Barthel Index. The assessments were performed 2 times during certain time. In addition, we observed the effect of acupuncture on improvment of SEP in two groups. Resultshere was significant difference between two groups with reference to changes in MESSS after3 weeks according to P<0. 027. No differences in the Barthel Index and SEP were found between two groups 2 according to P>0. 05. There was no bad events of acupuncture treatment in the whole study process. ConclusionsThe present study indicates that acupuncture treatment has beneficial effect on acute stroke patients neurological impairment and might have beneficial effect on acute stroke patients , ability to perform daily life activities. The acupuncture treatment is safe for acute stroke patients. |
