As the growth of the world population and the development of all human beings, the supply of global water resources is increasingly falling behind the demand. Water resources have become the critical factor that constraints the sustainable development of many countries."Virtual water"is a new conception put forward in 1990s, which associate water with trade , and give a new way to analyse relevant trade policy. This paper sums up the studies of virtual water, and separates them into three parts and comments. This paper studies on the international crop tade of China by using the two application ways of"Virtual Water". One is the analysis of virtual water flow in China's crop trade between 2000 and 2006. The other is the comparison of advantages of virtual water in China and the United States'crop production and the comment of crop trade between China and US.It is found that China's net import of virtual water is 475.7 billion cubic meters through international crop trade between 2000 and 2006, achieving water saving in our country, and the dependency degree of agricultural water varies from 9.5% in 2000 to 22.0% in 2006. International crop trade between China and US basically corresponds to the principle of water resources use efficiency, thus saving 20.5 billion cubic meters of virtual water on the global scale. On the base of this research result, the relevent policies suggestion about sustainable development is proposed.
