Beijing Fengtai Hexi Region's Economic Development Power Factor Study

With the development of economy and the speeding up process of urbanization, the structure and layout of industry in Beijing is becoming more reasonable. In the new general-planning of Beijing (2004-2020), different areas are supplied by correspond development references.Hexi Region is located in southwest of Beijing, in Fengtai District, closely near by the "centre town" of Beijing. It was one of the fourteen "satellite town" in Beijing before 2004. However, because of many different reasons, it developed very slowly. In the new general-planning of Beijing (2004-2020), it is considered as an important part of the "centre town" of Beijing, and it has relative independence in space and function.From the base of history and region perspective, Hexi Region is an urban and rural joint area. In the field of region development, many scholars would like to study urbanization or the construction of "New County". A few scholars research the urban and rural joint areas, just focusing on the land utilization.Under the goal of accelerating Hexi Region development in general, the thesis adopts comprehensive analysis and comparative study as methodology. Based on reference study and investigation, according to its characteristics, and using both overseas and domestic experience, it starts with analysis the level of industry development of Beijing and Fengtai, and investigates the status and residents' demand of Hexi Region. Then, based on comparative study inside the region, it finds out the driving factors of accelerating Hexi Region development.The main part of the thesis comparatively analyzes the living status of two different traditional communities and the development status of Changxindian Town and Wangzuo Town. At last, according to the advantage of resource and region, it concludes five factors. They are upgrading traditional industry, developing the service industry, improving the traffic and infrastructure, developing education and combining resource and industry.Although the thesis studies on a special urban and rural joint area, the writer believes that it is also valuable for similar areas.
