The research of routing protocols in wireless sensor network are based on applications. At present, many sensor network routing protocols can be satisfied with some simple real-world applications. However, as the increasingly of people demand on the network stability, effectiveness and scale, as well as a number of disadvantages of the single sink node network architecture is revealed. In this time, multi-sink network architecture concepts and routing mechanism has been concerned by more and more researchers. Compared with traditional single sink sensor networks, multi-sink sensor network technology is still immature. How to improve the overall network energy efficiency in sensor networks is the most important research issue. Multi-sink network structure and network sub-cluster (layer) as an important means of the network are often used to reduce energy consumption. Dynamic configuration and node power control as efficiently important way are to achieve network data handle. In this paper, energy efficiency as the main target, around the multi-sink sensor network routing issues research. The main innovations in the thesis are outlined as following:(1) Single sink node is the usual structure of sensor networks, multi-sink network architecture concepts and routing mechanism has been the concern of the researchers. Given a multi-sink routing protocols proposed practical significance, and gives multi-sink sensor network routing protocols classification method, and then focused on a more representative analysis of the current multi-sink routing protocol, the protocol characteristics and application aspects of studied and compared.(2) Wireless sensor network is generally not uniform and in addressing the data, location-centric features, routing protocols will continue to be based on the data, location-based direction of the trend, proposed a location-based multi-sink routing protocols. The purpose is to use the dispersion of multi-sink, effective to ease the routing hole problem in location-based routing protocols, as well as to improve the network overall performance.(3) Taking into account the sub-cluster (hierarchical) structure is more suitable for large-scale network, and the main application background of multi-sink routing protocol is a large-scale network. Propose the concept of multi-sink sub-cluster (layer) wireless sensor networks that sink as the center. To optimize the network topology and enhance the network energy balance, to extend the network life cycle. We also propose a power control strategy protocol which suitable for multi-sink sub-cluster WSNs.The final chapter, firstly, the main contents of the article is comprehensive summary. Then, summarize the focus of the study for multi-sink wireless sensor network routing protocol. Finally, future research directions are discussed.
