Chemical tower is one of the most important equipments in chemical, oil, pharmaceutical and other industries.After many years' widespreading, techniques on CAD/CAM have been widely applied in various industries. The result proves that the application of CAD/CAM can greatly improve the efficiency of design and manufacturing. However, compared with other industries, because of its particularity of design and manufacture, the research and development of pressure vessel CAD/CAM systems has always been lagging behind. Therefore, the research and development of dedicated CAD/CAM system for chemical towers is very necessary, and has important practical significance for the development of chemical machinery industry.This paper created the parametric CAD/CAM system for chemical towers in the UG environment, based on the analysis of functional requirements, performance requirements, etc. It selects the plate tower for the specific study object, using many development tools for the re-development of CAD/CAM system, such as MS Visual Studio 2005, UG/NXOPEN API, UG/NXOPEN MenuScript, and so on. The system sets up a general parts database of tower equipment and a process variable database of sheet metal parts, achieves the parametric modeling and automatic assembly of chemical tower parts, aided programming of sheet metal parts processing, which improved the design and manufacturing efficiency of chemical tower. The user just simply choice or enter the design parameters of the parts, the system will automatically generate three-dimensional part model.After all parts are modeled, the equipment can be automatic assembled through the automatic assembly module.Finally, some sheet metal parts will be imported into the aided program module to generates the G code by post processing.The study results and the CAD/CAM systems of my work, have important practical significances for saving designers'time and energy, shorting the development cycle of new products, enhancing the contribution of new products, improving the market competitiveness of the enterprise.
