Objective: Understanding the Physical/Mental health status of Rural Left-behind and non-Left-behind children, and exploring risk factors affecting their health status, so as to provide scientific evidence for undertaking preventive measures and putting forward effective intervention means.Methods: Uses the multi-stage Stratified cluster random sampling method to choose the sample. According to with the pair condition the same inhabited area, the same homogeneity, the age difference±3 month, paired Rural Left-behind and non-Left-behind children at the rate of 1:1. Obey the request of"The study of the health investigation of the National Rural Children younger than 7 years old"Project, and carry on the questionnaire survey, the physique survey, the laboratory inspection and the psychological diagnosis. First describe the basic information of children, then compare the two group children's physical/mental health status by Chi-square test or T test, at last, seek for the influence factors to their physical/mental health status by Multiple linear regression analysis:.Results: (1) the basic information description: This study collects 1085 pairs of left-behind children and non-left-behind children aged from 0 to 7 years, 97.14% of the children are 1 year or older ,and the sex ratio of this group is 1.32:1,61.75% of them are living together; The main educational lever of the parents in both groups are not higher than junior high school(>80.00%), and of the group of the left-behind children have poorer economic conditions than the other group. There are 80.46% of the left-behind children's parents in this study left their children before their 2-year birth day, the skipped generational dependency ratio is 84.88%, and the most of guardians of the left-behind children are female, with educational lever not higher than the primary school.(2) Comparison of the Physical-Mental health:①The incidence of anemia in rural children were more than 44.00%, whose weight, height, head circumference, chest circumference and upper arm circumference are all below the average in 2005 nine suburban standards, and their mental health are worse than the norm;②The Indicators of physical growth of the left-behind children are slightly lower than the non-left-behind children ,but this differences do not have statistical significanc(eP>0.05).The mental health of the left-behind children are worse than the non-left-behind children, which performed in peer competence and prosocial behavior (P <0.05).(3) Multiple linear regression analysis: the children in rural areas who have natural childbirth,collective life and parents with high education level have better physical growth, but the children whose parents left them when they were too young or raised by their grandparents have poorer physical growth condition; the child who have better economic condition, no bother or sister, collective life and parents with high education level have better mental health, but the children whose parents left them when they were too young or whose guardian are female have poorer mental health.Conclusions: The Rural Children's the physical/mental health status cause people concerns, especially the left-behind children's. We should strengthen the management of Rural Children's physical/mental health, and enhance their guardians'awarenesses and skills of care, and make rational use of kindergarten education to fill the remaining lack of family education of left-behind children.
