Thus, at that time hospitals created by missionaries emerged one after another in the city of NINGBO. As one of the first western hospitals created by missionaries in China, enjoyed great influence in the modern times of NINGBO society, the hospital of NINGBO HUAMEI was an important base that American Christian Baptist disseminated the Christianity and was a miniature of the activities and movements of all mission hospitals in China. Since its birth, the hospital has been kept making adjustments and geared itself to the Chinese actual conditions and local fashion. It got great supports from Church organizations and local community and gradually made some remarkable achievement. Though having met a lot of difficulties during its development, the role and value of the hospital was indispensable to local society at any time. Despite of the achievement of training a large couple of nurses, bring in advanced hospital management system and medical technology, the hospital also involved itself actively into the construction of the cause of public health in NINGBO, which includes the disease control and work of injection (mainly aimed at the epidemics, such as cholera, plague, tuberculosis, typhoid, bacillary dysentery, malaria and syphilis ),as well as caring for the medical treatment and health of the women and children.At a medical charitable institution in the cause of Zhejiang local charities, the Hospital of NINGBO HUAMEI held a variety of poverty relief activities, such as offering free medical service,affording free tickets and donating goods, thus becoming one of the most influential public medical institutes in the modern history of NINGBO. The western medical has opened the horizon of autarchy NONGBO residents and become the access to the outer world and western countries, promoting the recognition and accepting the western culture as well as western medical.This article analyses the development of the western medical in NONGBO and its widespread influence to the modern society of this city.
