Objective: A bibliometric analysis of the AIDS is conducted, we can get the literature about aids research during 1999-2008, to investigate the status and development trend of the research of AIDS in China and abroad, to analyze the hot spot and key point of the research on AIDS and the differences between domestic and abroad, to explore the differences of medical research and social intervention of AIDS between domestic and abroad and analyze the weak point of China, and to present reference for the government to improve health work and formulate related policies.Methods: The study was based on the literatures search from"CBMWeb and Pubmed", search literatures about AIDS field during 1999-2008, The method of subjece-word retrieval was used to select articles about AIDS from two databases, the bibliometric analysis was peformed.Results: In recent 10 years, the number of the literatures in abroad developed steadily, but in China is fluctuated significantly, The research structure of AIDS in China was similar to that abroad, The focus of the study are etiology, epidemiology, treatment and diagnosis. The psychology and economics research is weak in China, the medical study abroad is earlier than in China, there were significant differences between the proportion of the number of literatures in medical study and social intervention both in China and abroad.Conclusion: The development trend of the research on AIDS in China is unanimous with that abroad, but the study in China started lately, fluctuated obviously, It point us should Strengthen the basic medicine research, the psychology, economics, Public health policies aspects will have more research attention, the prevention and control of AIDS need the cooperation of medical staffs, psychologists and sociologists.
