Effect of Yeast Chromium and L-carnitine on Growth Performance and Lipid Metabolism of Broiler Chickens Abstract The 3 X 4 (chromium X carnitine)experiment with repeats was designed to investigate the effects of adding yeast chromium(0, 400 and 600 IL g/kg)and L-carnitine(0, 30, 50 and 1 OOmg/kg)to corn-soybean diets on growth performance and lipid metabolism of broiler chickens, and their interaction. 480 one-day-old Avian chickens were randomly allocated to 12 treatments,40 for each treatment (the chickens fed the basal diet as control group), and the experiment lasted for seven weeks. The results showed 1. Adding chromium or L-carnitine alone had no significant effect on growth performance of broiler chickens(P>0.05), and there was no obvious interaction effect(P>0.05). But 400 IL g/kg chromium or 30, 50mg/kg L-carnitine tenced to improve growth performance of broiler chickens, and feeding them at the same time were better. 2.At the end of experiment, adding 400 , 600 IL g/kg chromium alone reduced serum triglycerides , total cholesterol, high density lipid protein cholesterol, glucose, liver triglycerides, liver and muscle total cholesterol content , and abdominal fat percentage, and improved serum free fatty acid content. There was significant difference between the adding chromium group and the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01)and no significant difference(P>0.05)between 400 and 60014 g/kg chromium for most of index. But only 600 IL g/kg chromium reduced significantly serum glucose and liver triglycerides 39.79% , 24.05% respectively than the control group(P <0.01). So adding 60011 g/kg chromium alone can regulate fat and cholesterol metabolism better at the same time. 3. At the end of experiment, adding 30, 50, 100mg/kg L-carnitine alone all reduced significantly serum and liver triglycerides , breast muscle total cholesterol content and abdominal fat percentage , and improved serum free fatty acid content(P<0.05, P<0.0 1). But only 100mg/kg L-carnitine reduced significantly serum and liver total cholesterol content than the control group, respectively 26.59% and 40.39%(P<0.01); only 50 or 100mg/kg L-carnitine reduced serum high density lipid protein cholesterol than the control group, respectively 26.150/o(P<0.05) and 26.92%(P<0.01). So adding 100mg/kg L-carnitine alone can regulate fat and cholesterol metabolism better at the same time. 4. Adding 60011 g/kg chromium alone and adding 1 00mg/kg L-carnitine alone had almost same effect for most of index about lipid metabolism. But analyzed apparently, L-carnitine was more better for reducing serum cholesterol content; chromium was more better for reducing serum uric acid, glucose and leg muscle cholesterol content. The experimental results showed at first: There were significant interaction effects between chromium and L-carnitine for all index about lipid metabolism except leg muscle chromium and abdominal fat percentage(P?.0001?-0.03 15). 5. Adding~ chromium or L-carnitine alone improved significantly serum albumin and reduced serum uric acid content ( P<0.05, P<0.0 1), There were significant interaction effects between chromium and L-carnitine for other index except serum total protein(P0.000 1 0.0445). 6. Synthesized the above results: if adding alone, 60011 g/kg chromium or 100mg/kg L-carnitine were better and there was greater influence at the end of...
