Under the conditions in meeting the needs of the power, lightweight weapons technology is able to ensure the users' requirements for mass and volume of the howitzer as well as the good shooting results.Lightweight towed howitzer is comparatively light, and its safety coefficient is small. So the check of strength and stiffness and the analysis of firing stability is particularly important. This thesis focuses on the analysis of dynamic stress of the whole of a lightweight towed howitzer and firing stability with finite element program system, based on structural dynamics theory and nonlinear Finite Element Methods. In addition, the question which is also focused on is:If a howitzer is placed on different kinds of soil,in addition to firing accuracy will be affected, the distribution of dynamic stress of every part of the howitzer will also be affected. To solve the above problems, the main application of technical means are as follows:①After the analysis of structure of the howitzer, the complicated shapes which have no effects on stiffness and strength are reduced. Then, the nonlinear finite element structural dynamics model of the howitzer is created.②Translate the model that have been created into the finite element program system, and choose appropriate types of element for the model, then partition the model into finite elements.③Accordance with the actual conditions, the connection sectiongs among components are defined, especially the nonlinear large displacement slide and the nonlinear spring connections between recoil element and cradle rail.Among these connections, the interaction of howitzer and soil is investigated mostly. Then the elastic-plastic lumped parameter formula of soil is established.④Finally,using the implicit time integrationg program analyse the dynamic stress among components of the gun firing at the direction/elevation angles of 0°/0°,0°/70°and -22.5°/70°.By comparing these data, the influence action of soil with different properties on the distribution of dynamic stress in howitzer is discovered, that is more rigid soil to the howitzer does not necessarily result in greater stress levels, the results of which can be used for reference in structural design of howitzer.
