With the complication of modern control systems and electronics, Automatic Test System (ATS) has become the necessary part during the development and test. Because of veracity, complexity and security for equipments of Dipping Sonar, the maintenance and failure diagnoses of equipment depend on ATS greatly. So it is highly necessary to study and develop the ATS, which combines the techniques about data measurement, signal processing, database and expert system.This subject of ATS for is supported by the contract from Navy. The system is designed for ground synthesis testing of Dipping Sonar. It is used to check all extensions in orders, and offer the basis for examining and repairing boards or function modules.For the topic of study and design the ATS for one sonar system, the structure and principle of this sonar system are firstly introduced and discussed. Combining to the purpose and request for this ATS on Dipping Sonar, the design scheme of the whole system is presented with the realization and debugging of the softward and hardware.Studying the performance of PCI Bus, based on which proposing both the hardware and softward design schemes with investigation and performance analysis. Designing and realizing both signal adjustment and PC-DAQ of the system is studied in the hardware scheme. With the applications of software engineering and object-oriented design method, the software is developed with LabVIEW, which is one of most efficiency developing tools to satisfy testing requirement. Comparing to given parameters, the system can analyze the status of the Dipping sonar easily.
