In this thesis, Finite Element Method was employed to analyze the thermal cracking behavior of asphalt pavement under low temperature. First, a pavement structure model was proposed to analyze the thermal stresses. Crack spacing of asphalt pavement was determined and its related factors were analyzed. Secondly, based on the measuring of fracture toughness KIC, the cracking behavior of the surfacecourse was analyzed after its underlying base course had been fully cracked. Stress intensity factor was determined and its related factors were analyzed. Finally, stress conditions were compared when slipping occurred between surface course and base course with a very thin course introduced between them. Anti-cracking measures were recommended from the above results.
